Vaasa selects new facilities director after second vote

Vaasa’s technical municipal board has again selected Tommi Rintamäki as the city’s new facilities director, following a second vote on Monday.

The decision was confirmed by Markku Järvelä, head of Vaasa’s urban environment division, with a vote of 6–3.

Thirteen candidates applied for the role, with five interviewed. Järvelä had proposed Markus Moisio as the most qualified candidate, a recommendation unanimously backed by the four-member interview panel.

In May, the board first considered the appointment and, contrary to the proposal, selected Rintamäki. Moisio, previously Lohja’s technical director, was dismissed in March amid procurement irregularities. An internal audit in Lohja found mismatches between contracts and invoices, with significant exceedances of tendered values.

Moisio filed a request for rectification, arguing the May decision was procedurally flawed, potentially influenced by improper factors, and failed to follow appointment criteria. He demanded the board overturn its decision and fill the post in line with preparations and expert assessments.

Rintamäki was given the opportunity to be heard but did not respond. With the rectification request rejected, Moisio may now appeal to the administrative court.
