The Faroese government has decided to close the public works department at Landsverk by 1 January 2027, as part of a restructuring to ensure clearer accountability for public construction projects, Landsstýrismaður Jacob Vestergaard confirmed.

In a letter from Pól Egholm, director-general of the government, to Marjun Weihe Thomassen, director of Landsverk, it was stated that responsibility for construction planning, maintenance, lease agreements, and related tasks will now be transferred to the relevant ministries that control the budgets. The aim is to streamline oversight of construction projects and building management.

Vestergaard, who oversees labour affairs, said public construction projects will now fall under the authority of the ministries or agencies with budgetary control. Private consultants will be responsible for managing the projects themselves.

The government has no direct oversight role over Landsverk regarding construction planning, Vestergaard added.

Marjun Weihe Thomassen, director of Landsverk, had no immediate comment on the decision.
