The Faroe Islands are generally well-prepared for food supply disruptions, according to a response from Deputy Prime Minister Jacob Vestergaard to a parliamentary question from Sámal Petur í Grund, a member of the Løgting.
Vestergaard stated that current guidelines do not provide specific advice on how residents should behave in the event of shortages, but noted that emergency plans ensure people have access to food and water for three days. He acknowledged that prolonged import disruptions could lead to shortages of vegetables and fruit, also affecting farmers who may need to adjust operations or cull livestock.
He emphasized that it would be unwise to rely solely on imported food, as trust in supply chains could falter during a crisis, such as if the surrounding sea were to become unnavigable.
The exchange was reported by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.
