Trial begins for Jonas Falk over alleged cocaine smuggling
A trial opened Tuesday against Jonas Falk, one of Sweden’s most high-profile suspects, accused of four serious drug offences involving the smuggling of 2.5 tonnes of cocaine, SVT reports.
Falk, who denies the charges, will follow the proceedings by video link from Kronoberg remand prison and has chosen not to participate in the latest investigation.
Prosecutor Lars Lindman has previously told SVT that Falk played a “completely decisive” role in moving tonnes of cocaine from South America to Europe in 2020–2021, citing encrypted chat material from the Sky ECC app as key evidence.
Falk’s defence lawyer, Max Ahlgren, argues the alleged crimes belong to Spain and have no connection to Sweden. Falk views the prosecution as a continuation of the earlier “Operation Playa” case, a claim the prosecutor has rejected.
Falk was previously convicted in 2025 for his role in the extortion of businessman Joachim Kuylenstierna and was acquitted in 2014 in the “Operation Playa” narcotics case.
