The Faroe Islands are generally well-prepared for food supply disruptions, according to a response from Deputy Prime Minister Jacob Vestergaard to a parliamentary question from Sámal Petur í Grund.
Vestergaard stated there are no plans to issue official guidance on how residents should behave in the event of shortages, particularly regarding food. He noted that current preparedness efforts focus on ensuring access to food and water for three consecutive days.
A prolonged period without imports could lead to shortages of vegetables and fruit, he acknowledged, which would also affect farmers likely forced to adjust operations and cull livestock. However, he emphasized that even if certain food items were in short supply, the islands would not face a complete lack of food, as the surrounding ocean would remain a reliable source.
The exchange was reported by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.
