Rauma has released conceptual images of the renovated Äijänsuo ice rink, with construction set to begin next spring and finish in late 2028, Yle reports.
The €17.9 million renovation, awarded to NCC, will include a new main stand, restaurant and box seating areas, as well as a practice facility for the Rauma Lukko ice hockey team. The city of Rauma will cover just under €13 million of the costs, while the hockey club will contribute slightly over €7 million.
The project will also modernise the rink’s exterior and increase its seating capacity by approximately 700 spectators. Rauma Lukko’s CEO Rafael Eerola previously told Yle that the team will play its next two seasons as usual, but will need to use away venues for the start of the 2028 league season due to the renovation.
