Six former executives from companies behind the Nordic Waste case now face a 450 million kroner compensation claim following the 2023 landslide, according to a press release from the Danish Ministry of Environment.
The bankruptcy estates of Nordic Waste and DSH Recycling have filed the lawsuit against the six individuals. Environment Minister Maria Reumert Gjerding (SF) stated that the legal action aims to ensure a proper conclusion to the case, emphasizing that the polluter must cover the significant damages caused by the landslide.
The landslide began in December 2023 when millions of cubic meters of soil shifted, burying parts of the nearby Gammel Århusvej road. The 450 million kroner claim covers expenses incurred by creditors, including the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and Randers Municipality, during their period of regulatory responsibility for the landslide.
In April 2024, the Danish Chamber of Advocates determined that a sister company to DSH Recycling shared responsibility for the landslide. DSH Recycling entered bankruptcy proceedings on November 19, 2024.
