Pedestrian killed in Kuusankoski hit-and-run, police seek van sightings

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision early Saturday in Kuusankoski, Kouvola, after a van struck them on a crosswalk, Yle reports.

The crash occurred at 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of Kyminkatu and Kymintehtaantie. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver, described as heavily intoxicated, fled but was apprehended minutes later along with the white van, which police believe had been traveling along Kyminkatu toward Kuusaantie.

Detective Chief Inspector Nina Hietanen said the rapid arrest followed an emergency call, with a patrol unit already nearby. Investigators are pursuing charges including aggravated traffic endangerment, aggravated drunk driving, aggravated vehicular homicide, and hit-and-run.
