The Faroe Islands and Greenland have signed a new fisheries agreement, updating a 1997 framework deal, the Faroese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Fisheries announced.
The agreement outlines core rules for fisheries cooperation, including quota exchanges, access rights, and joint monitoring. It also commits both territories to scientifically based fish stock management and collaboration on marine biology and environmental protection. All terms will be reviewed during annual consultations.
Faroese Fisheries Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen called the agreement a confirmation of both territories’ desire to strengthen fisheries ties. He expressed hope it would deepen future cooperation. The deal will be submitted to the Faroese parliament, the Løgting, for approval this autumn.
