Woman in her 30s dies in swimming accident in Skien

A woman in her 30s died following a swimming accident in Skien on Sunday evening, Dagbladet reports.

Police received notice of the incident late Sunday night and launched a rescue operation, alerting the main rescue coordination centre. Firefighters responded with both surface rescuers and divers.

A person was pulled from the water and given life-saving first aid, but efforts were halted at approximately 23:40, according to police operations leader Inge Omli Landsrød. A doctor confirmed the woman’s death at the scene.

The next of kin have been notified. Authorities do not suspect foul play and consider the incident a swimming-related accident.
