Three rock fans walked out of the Tons of Rock festival in Oslo on Friday evening in protest after the festival began screening Norway’s World Cup match against France, Dagbladet reports.
Niklas Olofsson, 57, Viktor Sunde, 23, and Emma Olofsson, 21, had spent the day at the festival on Ekebergsletta but left as soon as the match started, saying they had come for the music, not football.
“It’s stupid to show a football match at a rock festival,” Emma Olofsson said. “We came here for rock, not football,” Viktor Sunde added.
Niklas Olofsson was blunt: “I hate football.”
While the trio rejected the broadcast, other festivalgoers gathered to watch and joined in the global “ro” chanting trend. Meanwhile, thousands of supporters filled Oslo’s streets and squares to cheer on Norway.
Elsewhere in the city, Ukrainian friends Maryna Shcherbakova, 45, and Iryna Golubkova, 42, met in person for the first time after two years of online Norwegian lessons. Though not football fans, they said they supported Norway in the match as a gesture of gratitude for the country’s support of Ukraine.
