Copenhagen Police have significantly increased staffing at passport control in Copenhagen Airport, adding the equivalent of 130 extra officers to address long queues, DR reports.

Police Inspector Anders Rath, head of the Border Control Centre at Copenhagen Police, said the force had boosted resources by reallocating personnel, hiring additional controllers, and receiving support from other police districts.

The move follows the introduction of a new EU electronic passport control system for travellers outside Europe and the Schengen area, which records passport details, entry and exit times, and biometric data such as facial images and fingerprints.

“It’s clear that when border checks become more thorough, it also takes longer to pass through,” Rath said.
