Two teens charged after speedboat collides with paddleboard in Svendborg Sund
A 17-year-old woman and a 16-year-old man have been charged after a speedboat they were operating struck a paddleboard in Svendborg Sund off Rantzausminde Harbour, Fyns Police report.
The collision, which occurred on Sunday, left a man seriously injured. Police have not disclosed his current condition.
Both teens face charges under maritime safety laws and for endangering others. The 17-year-old, who was at the helm during the collision, is additionally charged with negligent bodily harm.
“This is a regrettable case for everyone involved,” Henrik Strauss, a police commissioner with Fyns Police, told DR. “No one goes out on the water intending to harm others, but when things go wrong, the law is clear.”
Strauss said no further charges are expected at this time. He urged water users to prioritise safety, noting the rapid onset of danger in such incidents.
