The prosecutor in the case against Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is appealing the sentence and pushing for a harsher penalty, Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports.
Høiby was sentenced to four years in prison by Oslo District Court on 15 June after being convicted of two counts of rape as well as physical and psychological abuse against a former girlfriend. He was acquitted on two other rape charges.
Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø has now decided to appeal the sentence but not the acquittals, according to a press release. The decision was made in consultation with the victims’ legal representatives and with consideration for “the burden on the victims.”
During the district court proceedings, the prosecutor had sought a sentence of seven years and seven months.
The case is expected to be heard by the court of appeal next year.
