A 6-year-old boy, Dennis Skjørestad, died on Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car while cycling in a residential area in Time municipality, Dagbladet reports.
The boy’s name and image were released with the consent of his family and police, according to their assistance lawyer, Inger Marie Sunde. She told the newspaper the parents are devastated but drawing strength from their daughter, Tiril, and the support of friends, family, and the local community.
Emergency services responded quickly, performing CPR at the scene before the boy was taken to Stavanger University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police prosecutor Stian Eskeland said in a statement.
The driver, a man in his 40s, has been charged under Section 281 of the Penal Code for negligent homicide. He has not been detained. Police prosecutor Christina Nessa said the investigation is ongoing, with further witness interviews planned and the suspect to be questioned early next week. Authorities have so far found no prior connection between the boy and the driver.
