Man sentenced to eight months for firing gun in Tampere park
A district court in Pirkanmaa has sentenced a man to eight months in prison for firing a handgun in Koskipuisto park in Tampere, endangering multiple lives.
The man fired an unlicensed handgun several times toward another person near the Pikku Kakkosen playground in September 2024. The incident occurred late on a Friday evening when the area was crowded with bystanders, including children.
The defendant admitted to the shooting but denied it posed a serious risk to others. The court ruled that the gunfire created a concrete and severe danger to bystanders and convicted him of endangerment.
He was also convicted of providing false personal information, firearms offenses, drug-related offenses, drunk driving, and driving without a license. The eight-month sentence is unconditional due to his prior criminal record, which includes multiple drug and traffic offenses as well as two previous firearms violations.
The man has appealed the verdict, which is not yet final.
