Finland’s entire public sector will transition to AI-based operations by 2031, the Ministry of Finance’s permanent secretary Juha Majanen told Helsingin Sanomat in an interview published Friday.
According to Majanen, a shared AI platform will be built for the public sector, integrating the best available AI technology at any given time. The shift will reduce the public sector workforce, primarily by not replacing retiring employees. Majanen acknowledged that some workers will still lose their jobs.
The move aims to secure funding for the welfare state, he said.
