Man suspected of attempted murder of his child in Pyhtää

A man born in the 1970s is suspected of attempting to murder his primary school-aged child in Pyhtää, southern Finland, in the early hours of Monday, according to a report by Yle.

The suspect was arrested at the scene immediately after the act of violence and remanded in custody by Helsinki District Court on Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder. Police received notice of the incident when the suspect himself contacted emergency services.

Preliminary investigations suggest the act was premeditated. Police have conducted initial interviews with those involved and are continuing the investigation.
