Student caps now come in over 20 colours
Graduation celebrations are filling Danish streets with decorated trucks as students mark the end of their studies, each wearing caps that now come in more than 20 distinct colours and designs, reports DR.
While the traditional white cap with red or blue ribbon remains common, many vocational programmes—such as hairdressing, gardening, and masonry—have adopted their own colour schemes in recent years.
The first student caps arrived in Denmark in the mid-1800s, originating from Germany. Originally black with white ribbons, they were worn only by those completing academic upper-secondary programmes like STX, HHX, or HTX. Today, white caps dominate, though black versions can still be seen.
DR will livestream graduation celebrations across the country from 11:00 on its website and DR1 channel, including coverage from Storkespringvandet in Copenhagen.
