The Faroese government has not committed to any concrete plans to establish a committee to oversee and advise the Faroese Broadcasting Corporation (Kringvarpið), nor has it proposed other significant reforms, according to a response from Minister Bárður á Lakjuni to MP Jenis av Rana.

In a parliamentary query, av Rana asked whether the minister would consider forming a committee to monitor and advise Kringvarpið. Á Lakjuni replied that while he generally believes the broadcaster fulfills its role, this does not mean its news output is beyond criticism.

“I also believe criticism must be well-founded,” the minister said, adding that political authorities must never, under any circumstances, control news reporting. He emphasized that Kringvarpið, like other major public institutions, must allow open debate and critical voices.

The exchange was first reported by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.
