Odense University Hospital has increased staffing at its emergency department by 20–30% in anticipation of high temperatures and the Tinderbox music festival, chief physician Poul Henning Madsen told DR.

With forecasts of temperatures above 30°C and festival crowds consuming alcohol in the sun, the risk of heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses rises sharply, Madsen said.

“We’re taking this very seriously because heatstroke can be life-threatening,” he said. The hospital has also ensured staff are updated on the latest treatment protocols for such cases.

Madsen advised festivalgoers to stay in the shade, drink enough fluids—including salts to avoid electrolyte imbalance—and avoid excessive alcohol and drugs.
