The Suviseurat religious summer event in Kauhava has already drawn 30,000 visitors, though the first official gathering does not begin until Friday, Yle reports.

Organizers expect over 84,000 attendees at the Nordic region’s largest spiritual summer event, held this year at Kauhava Airport and surrounding fields from June 26–29. The Conservative Laestadian revival movement’s annual gathering marks its 120th anniversary.

Chairman Kyösti Marjanen of the main organizing committee said preparations are on track, though the early arrival of eager guests on Wednesday—with some queuing hours before gates opened—took organizers by surprise. By Wednesday evening, around 30,000 people had already gathered.

The event spans 300 hectares, with approximately 18,500 vehicles and 6,300 tents expected. Around 74,000 attendees will stay on-site, while 10,000 are day visitors. The main tent seats 4,000, and Saturday’s communion service is expected to draw 25,000 participants in a continuous queue lasting four to five hours.

Traffic congestion near major highways has already been reported, with peak delays anticipated on Thursday as local workers finish their shifts. Organizers have arranged kilometers of entry roads to manage the flow of trailers and accommodation units.

This year’s theme emphasizes collective well-being, with a focus on safety and personal responsibility among attendees.
