A Faroese psychologist has warned that excessive screen use can negatively affect children’s language development, as local experts report worsening language skills among young children.
Gitte Klein, a psychologist at the Faroese mental health service Sálarstovuni, said children under three should not use screens at all. She added that it is not only children’s own screen time that poses a risk, but also parental screen use, which can impact a child’s language environment.
Klein’s comments follow observations by professionals that language abilities among Faroese children are deteriorating.
