A Faroese court on Thursday acquitted a woman charged with money laundering after prosecutors failed to meet the burden of proof, public broadcaster KVF reports.
The woman, a Faroese national, was arrested at Vágar Airport in June 2024 while en route to Denmark. Authorities found approximately 107,000 Danish kroner, 47,000 Faroese kroner, and 8,000 euros—equivalent to around 60,000 kroner—in her possession.
Prosecutors alleged the money was directly derived from illegal activity and linked to at least one, possibly more, unlawful transactions. The woman pleaded not guilty.
In its ruling, the court stated that the prosecution had not substantiated its claims, leading to the acquittal.
Prosecutor Katrina Thorsvig Hansen told KVF that the prosecution has no immediate comment on the verdict but will review the decision before determining next steps.
