Opposition parties backing Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson as prime minister are pressing for a comprehensive review of Sweden’s migration policy, according to Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

Vänsterpartiet’s migration policy spokesperson Tony Haddou stated that a red-green election victory would require a total reassessment of migration policy, including all existing reforms.

“Socialdemokraterna are formbara [malleable],” Haddou said, casting doubt on the party’s commitment to maintaining strict migration controls.

Centerpartiet leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist confirmed that refugee numbers would rise under a new government, with plans to increase the quota of UN refugees from 900 to 5,000 annually. She also supported expanding labour migration, provided wages meet collective agreement standards.

Miljöpartiet advocates for significantly more open asylum policies and increased labour migration for sectors facing shortages, according to its spokesperson Annika Hirvonen.

A new Indikator Opinion poll shows 48% of Swedes believe migration will increase if the opposition wins the 2026 election, while 39% expect no major change and 8% foresee a decrease. The survey, conducted June 1–21 with 1,700 respondents, was weighted by gender, age, and 2022 party preference.
