Finland, missing person, police

Police in eastern Finland have resumed the search for a young man who went under the water near Tahko beach in Kuopio on Saturday evening, according to a report by Yle.

Emergency services were alerted after witnesses reported that a young adult male had submerged in the area. Initial search efforts on Sunday night and early Monday yielded no results.

The operation was temporarily halted early Monday to reorganise resources, said Detective Inspector Esko Salo of the Eastern Finland Police Department. Searches resumed Monday afternoon with additional support, including a new cadaver dog and handler from another police district.

Salo confirmed the identity of the missing person is known to authorities. The search is expected to continue at least through Tuesday, with decisions on further efforts evaluated case by case.

A police patrol present at the scene on Saturday did not observe the incident, but subsequent information confirmed the need for a search, Salo added.
