The maternity ward at Landssjúkrahúsið, the national hospital of the Faroe Islands, is preparing for 79 births in July, according to a report by KVF.

Rannvá Debes Christiansen, head midwife, said the figure is a record and is not expected to affect the total annual birth count for 2026.

She noted the ward is well-equipped to handle all deliveries during the busy summer period.

Economist Erla Thorteinsson of Hagstovan, the Faroese statistics agency, said birth numbers have declined in recent years, but it is too early to say whether a trend is reversing.
