Police in Ostrobothnia have confirmed that human bones found in late May near the border of Kauhava and Lapua belong to a woman who disappeared in 2022, reports Yle.

The woman, who had dementia, went berry picking in the Pelkkikangas area of Kauhava four years ago and never returned.

Lead investigator Markku Kaperi said searches had been conducted over the years, including with cadaver dogs. The most recent search, carried out with volunteer rescue services, took place a week before the remains were discovered in May.

The location where the remains were found was about five kilometres from the woman’s home.

Regional newspaper Ilkka-Pohjalainen was the first to report the confirmation of the identity.
