Man in his 40s dies after canoe capsizes in Beiarn

A man in his 40s died after a canoe capsized in Litlvatnet lake in Beiarn municipality, Nordland, on Friday afternoon, Dagbladet reports.

Emergency services and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene after police received a report at 12:24 PM. Two people were in the canoe when it overturned, and both were brought to shore by bystanders, according to Tommy Bech, operations leader at Nordland police district. One of the individuals later died.

The deceased was a foreign national residing in the Salten region. His next of kin have been notified. Police have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident, and an autopsy will be conducted.
