Icelandic president begins Faroe Islands visit

Iceland’s president, Halla Tómasdóttir, and her husband, Björn Skúlason, arrived in the Faroe Islands on Monday, landing at Vágar Airport shortly after 2:10 pm, KVF reports.

At 3:45 pm, Tómasdóttir is scheduled to meet with Faroese prime minister Høgni Djurhuus in Tórshavn’s Tinganes district, followed by a visit to the Løgting parliament building.

On Tuesday, the delegation will travel to Eysturoy, where the president will tour the Eysturoyartunnilin subsea tunnel, the MEST plant in Skála, the swimming hall in Runavík, and Bakkafrost’s facilities. The day begins with a visit to SEV in Húsahagi.

Later, the group will proceed to Klaksvík, visiting the municipality, the Icelandic-Faroese business initiative in Varpin, artist Edward Fuglø’s studio, the rowing club, and the Rótin cultural centre.

Wednesday’s programme includes stops at Hugskotið and Fróðskaparsetrið in Sjóvinnuhúsið. The visit concludes with a reception at the Nordic House at 11:30 am.
