Base jumper fined for illegal leap from Lahti radio mast

A base jumper parachuted without permission from the Lahti Radiomäki radio mast on Friday evening, Yle reports.

Police were alerted to the scene at around 10 p.m. after the individual had climbed the mast before jumping. Authorities confirmed the incident involved an unauthorised base jump, where a parachute is used to descend from a high structure.

The jumper was fined for defying police orders. According to the police situation centre, the individual failed to comply with instructions, constituting obstruction. No injuries were reported, and emergency services were not required.

Police did not disclose the height of the jump or the landing location. The Radiomäki masts are known to be extremely tall, and access to the area is restricted without permission.
