Denmark selects sites for new air defence systems
Denmark will place its new ground-based air defence systems at Flyvestation Tirstrup in eastern Jutland, with additional sites at Flyvestation Skalstrup near Roskilde, as well as preparedness areas at Flyvestation Skrydstrup and Aflandshage on the southern tip of Amager, state broadcaster DR reports.
The systems, designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles at ranges between 5 and 50 kilometres, were approved by the Folketing, with the defence chief recommending their locations.
Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus (S) called the deployment a “top priority” for the military, noting that coalition parties had followed the defence chief’s geographic recommendations.
Last year, parties behind the defence agreement allocated 58 billion kroner to purchase eight medium- or long-range systems. The mobile units can be relocated in wartime, while peacetime training will take place at Skalstrup and Tirstrup.
