Almost 90 percent of food businesses in the Faroe Islands have been awarded the highest hygiene rating, according to the Faroese Health Authority.

The authority’s food safety division, led by Malan Nicolinudóttir Mikkelsen, reports that compliance with hygiene regulations is strong among food producers and sellers. The rating system, introduced last year, classifies businesses into three categories: restaurants, larger cafes, and takeaways; smaller cafes and petrol stations; and retailers.

Inspections determine whether a business receives a “very good,” “good,” or “needs improvement” rating.
