A pig transport truck overturned shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday on Thisted Landevej Route 11 near Birkelse in North Jutland, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
The truck was carrying 190 pigs and tipped onto its side. Police and North Jutland Emergency Services responded with eight vehicles and 15 personnel. Assisted by a veterinarian, crews worked to remove the pigs from the truck.
Several pigs had to be euthanized on site due to injuries.
Once all pigs are removed, a major cleanup will be required, and the truck must be lifted and towed away, according to Henrik Larsen, incident commander with North Jutland Police. He estimates the road will not reopen before noon.
