A Finnish district court has sentenced a 50-year-old woman to nearly two years in suspended prison for aggravated aid fraud, Yle reports.

The Pirkanmaa District Court ordered the former project manager of the dry toilet association Huussi to repay €400,000 in development cooperation funds to the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

She was also ordered to pay €225,000, including late interest, to the association’s bankruptcy estate.

The woman, who managed sanitation projects in Zambia and Ghana, admitted in a plea bargain to providing false information to the ministry and concealing material facts about the use of funds.

Huussi reported irregularities in its development aid spending in 2023 and filed a criminal complaint regarding its Zambia dry sanitation program.
