Woman pushed man in front of tram in Tampere; police investigate motive
A 40-year-old woman pushed a 70-year-old man in front of a tram at Tampere’s central railway station last Friday evening, Yle reports. Police are still determining the motive.
The suspect and victim knew each other, according to Detective Chief Inspector Jari Luoto of the Central Finland Police. Investigators have questioned both parties, as well as numerous witnesses, with further interviews planned.
The incident occurred at the tram stop on Hämeenkatu near the railway station. Surveillance footage from the area is aiding the investigation, Luoto said, noting the city centre has extensive camera coverage.
The victim sustained minor injuries, likely from falling. The tram managed to brake before impact, police confirmed.
The suspect, born in 1983, was arrested on Tuesday by Pirkanmaa District Court on suspicion of attempted murder. Prosecutors must file charges by 28 August. The woman was previously known to police.
