Prosecutor: Son shot father dead with air rifle in Kiuruvesi
A 23-year-old man is accused of murdering his father with an air rifle in Kiuruvesi last March, according to charges filed in North Savo District Court in Iisalmi on Thursday.
The prosecutor is seeking a life sentence. The father, approximately 70 years old, died from a bullet fired from the air rifle.
The defendant denies intentional homicide—either murder or manslaughter—but admits to causing his father’s death through gross negligence, which he classifies as aggravated involuntary manslaughter.
Police initially suspected manslaughter when they arrested the man in early April after discovering the body on March 19 at a privately owned property outside Kiuruvesi’s town center. The prosecutor has since upgraded the charge to murder.
The defendant has no prior criminal record, according to Yle.
