Sweden’s busiest roads this Midsommar weekend will be the E4 from Luleå to Helsingborg, the E6 from Malmö to the Norwegian border, and the E20 from Gothenburg to Stockholm, the Swedish Transport Administration warns.
With one of the year’s heaviest travel periods underway, the agency urges drivers to expect long queues and allow extra time. “Keep your distance, drive calmly, and expect the whole country to be on the move,” said Daniel Mossberg, the agency’s press officer.
Peak travel times are Thursday until 19:00 and Friday until 14:00. The Transport Administration advises against night driving, even if roads appear clearer. “Be well-rested and avoid unnecessary risks,” Mossberg said.
Other high-traffic routes include Riksväg 40 (Gothenburg–Jönköping), E22 (Trelleborg–Norrköping), E18 (Örebro–Stockholm), and roads in and around Dalarna (E16, Riksväg 70 and 50). The E4/E20 stretch from Stockholm to Södertälje, E18 from Norrtälje to Kappelskär, and road 278 (Norrtälje–Furusund) will also see heavy use.
Rail services are expected to run normally, though trains may be fully booked.
