Fire destroys part of pig farm in Jokioinen, 800 pigs die
A fire at a pig farm in Jokioinen has killed an estimated 800 pigs, according to the Kanta-Häme rescue department.
The blaze broke out in the afternoon after 4 p.m. on Saartenkuja street, destroying one section of the farm and collapsing its roof structures. Firefighters contained the fire to that part of the facility.
Over 10 rescue units are on site. The fire damaged roughly 1,000 square meters of livestock production facilities. Crews are conducting follow-up extinguishing and clearance work, which duty fire chief Mika Kupiainen estimates will continue overnight.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
