Police have confirmed the discovery of a stroller at the site where a 39-year-old woman was found dead and her 5-year-old son was found seriously injured, Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet reports.

Police Inspector Odd Kostveit told Dagbladet that the stroller belonged to the pair. “I can confirm that a stroller was found where the two were located,” Kostveit said. The stroller had been observed with the mother and son in the area the day before they were reported missing.

The incident occurred near the municipal border between Porsgrunn and Bamble. A hiker found the woman and her son on Tuesday after they were reported missing on Monday. The boy was airlifted to Ullevål Hospital with serious injuries.

Kostveit stated that police believe the stroller ended up at the scene at the same time as the fall. “We cannot say whether the boy was in or out of the stroller,” he added.

Authorities are also investigating a fire at the residence where the mother and son had been staying, which they consider connected to the discovery. Police have seized a mobile phone believed to belong to the woman and plan to analyze it.

Police have two main hypotheses: that the incident was an accidental fall or a deliberate act. Witnesses reported seeing the pair near a viewpoint between 11:00 and 12:00 on Monday. Authorities urge anyone who may have seen them in or near the hiking area to come forward.
