Copenhagen will host Denmark’s national sports week, DM-ugen, in 2028, marking the first time the event comes to the capital, public broadcaster DR reports.

The week-long festival will feature competitions in over 40 sports, adding to the city’s already crowded calendar of major events. While such gatherings bring traffic and congestion, many residents welcomed the news.

Morten Zeuthen, a Nørrebro local, called it “a great idea” but noted the strain on parking and traffic, especially after recent marathons and cycling races. “Sometimes I wonder, what’s wrong with Hareskoven?” he said.

Helene Thybo Nordgaard of Østerbro supported the event’s community spirit but acknowledged frustrations with road closures and ongoing construction. Mathias Bajlum, another resident, embraced the disruption: “Life’s too short to get upset over that.”

Copenhagen’s mayor, Sisse Marie Welling (SF), said the city has allocated 13 million kroner for the event and will schedule it to avoid overlapping with other major gatherings. “As the capital, we have an obligation to host events that bring Danes together,” she said.
