Holstebro Municipality is moving forward with plans to establish a heliport in Thorsminde, aiming to strengthen the coastal town’s role as a hub for offshore wind operations, reports DR.

The technical committee approved a new local plan to site the heliport in the southern part of Thorsminde harbour. Committee chair Klaus Flæng (S) said the facility would boost employment and attract new residents by supporting follow-on industries tied to offshore wind.

Local opposition has emerged over noise concerns. Kim Katborg, co-owner of Thorsminde Camping, warned that daily helicopter flights could deter tourists seeking quiet. He called for flight paths to avoid residential areas.

Flæng acknowledged noise will be audible but said officials have worked to minimise disruption. The project is now under environmental review, with noise impacts under assessment. A public meeting in August will present the final flight routes and local plan details. Residents may submit written feedback before the meeting.

The proposal still requires approval from the finance committee and city council before an eight-week public consultation begins after the summer break.
