The Swedish government will pay 2 million kronor each in compensation to two doctors wrongly accused in the 1980s da Costa case, Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer announced on Monday.

Thomas Allgén and Teet Härm, who were publicly branded as murderers despite never being charged, will receive the ex gratia payments. Strömmer said the government deeply regrets what they endured.

The decision follows years of failed retrial attempts and marks a long-sought vindication for the doctors.
