Finnish police are investigating a suspected large-scale investment fraud with estimated damages of around €25 million, Yle reports.

The case, classified as aggravated fraud, involves a single victim from southern Finland who was allegedly tricked into transferring money to a fake investment service.

According to the investigation, the victim was contacted via social media by someone posing as a representative of an online investment platform. The victim was advised to create an account and initially, the service appeared legitimate, allowing withdrawals that built trust. The victim then invested larger sums before losing access to the account and funds.

Authorities suspect the entire platform was created for criminal purposes and that the case involves international crime networks. Finland’s National Bureau of Investigations’ cybercrime unit is leading the probe in cooperation with foreign law enforcement.

Police warned that fraudulent online investment platforms can appear convincing, and anyone can fall victim regardless of prior experience.
