The Faroese Maritime Authority (Sjóvinnustýrið) has long provided guidance on its website about the obligation to report maritime accidents, its director Hans Johannes á Brúgv told Kringvarp Føroya.

He was responding to a claim by the association for fishing vessel owners (Reiðarafelagið fyri handilsskip) that the authority should publish instructions on how to report accidents at sea. The authority’s site already includes information on reporting requirements, as well as forms for submitting notices.

A regulation is also in place requiring shipowners and operators to report accidents, fatalities, and incidents involving Faroese or foreign vessels in Faroese waters to the authority.
