Eastern Finland police have concluded their preliminary investigation into the death of a patient following an MRI scan at a private clinic in Kuopio in January 2025, Yle reports.

The incident occurred at Pihlajalinnan medical centre. Authorities suspect one individual—an anaesthesiologist who no longer collaborates with Pihlajalinnan—of causing death. Police do not suspect the clinic or its staff of any wrongdoing.

The Accident Investigation Board of Finland (Otkes) previously determined that the death of the middle-aged man, who was sedated for the MRI, resulted from serious patient safety deficiencies. Otkes published its findings in February.

Yle first reported the criminal suspicion in March 2025.
