One dead in Lunnertunnelen traffic accident

A person has died following a serious traffic accident in Lunnertunnelen on the E16 in Akershus, Dagbladet reports. The tunnel remains closed Monday morning as police continue their investigation.

The incident involved a single vehicle with one occupant, according to the police operations center. The driver was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Only the driver was in the car. The driver has died, and the investigation at the scene is ongoing,” operations manager Haagen Løvseth stated at 08:48.

Innlandet police district first reported the accident at 03:49 Monday. By 07:00, operations manager Bård Einar Hoft told Dagbladet that forensic work in the tunnel would keep it closed for several more hours.

The Eastern Norway Traffic Control Center has advised motorists to use alternative routes.
