Old pool tiles spark nostalgia in Jyllinge
Renovation work at Jyllinge swimming pool has uncovered an unexpected wave of local interest in the facility’s decades-old decorated tiles, DR reports.
The tiles, painted by residents in 1974 in exchange for a charitable donation, lined the long pool for nearly 50 years before being removed. Hall inspector Claus Larsen documented the tiles with photographs before their removal, only to find himself fielding requests from locals eager to reclaim images of their personal contributions.
Residents have shared memories tied to the tiles, with some recalling childhood drawings of horses, houses, or boats, while others used specific tiles as landmarks during swims. Many now returning to Jyllinge see the tiles as cherished relics of their youth.
Images of all the tiles are available on the swimming hall’s website.
