Tampere’s tram network experienced an unusually eventful weekend with two collisions and a near-fatal incident, according to VR’s operational manager Vesa Rauhala.

On Friday evening, a person was pushed onto the tram tracks on Hämeenkatu. Police are investigating the incident as an attempted homicide. Initial reports suggested the victim might have been struck by the tram, but detective Jani Ortamala of the Central Finland Police told Yle that the tram managed to brake in time.

On Saturday around noon, a delivery van collided with a tram on Hämeenkatu, shattering a window of the tram. Passengers reported that some were thrown inside the carriage by the impact.

On Sunday afternoon, a tram and a bus collided near the Koskipuisto stop. The tram sustained minor damage and was taken to the depot for inspection and repairs.

No serious injuries have been reported in any of the incidents. Two trams are currently out of service for repairs, but this has not significantly disrupted the schedule.

Rauhala described the weekend as “truly exceptional,” noting that only two minor incidents had occurred in the entire year prior. He confirmed that all incidents are under thorough review, with drivers filing reports and footage from the trams’ 14 onboard cameras being examined.

Drivers involved in incidents, particularly those with potential personal injuries, are offered psychological support and required to discuss the event with occupational health services.
