The World Championship in medieval combat sports at Spøttrup Castle has drawn far more participants than expected, with over 900 fights now scheduled across four days, reports Danish broadcaster DR.

Heidi Lind Sandholm, vice chair of the Danish Medieval Combat Sports Association, said organisers had initially planned for around 160 bouts but were overwhelmed by global interest.

To manage the expanded programme, which runs from 23 to 26 July, the team needs 30–40 additional volunteers to ensure enough arenas and time slots, avoiding late-night sessions.

After first recruiting within the sport’s community, organisers are now appealing to locals for help. “We want everyone to have a good week and not be overwhelmed by the workload,” Sandholm said.
